Home to me is NELA, the northeastern part of Los Angeles where I live and write. I grew up both in South L.A. and in the little neighborhood they call Toonerville, where my grandparents lived on a street called Goodwin, near the Los Angeles River. Home is where my heart is and my stories – the murals, the carruchas, the ranflas, the urban landscape, the community, and most of all, the gente.
